Abstract

The article studies the South-Eastern European area, or the Balkans, in light of a history of common social life and neighborhood. The author focuses on several sociological issues which are crucial in understanding the specificity of this area. These issues are very diverse, in areas such as social structure, ancient agricultural technology, the household, housing styles, and religious beliefs. For example, as for the religious beliefs, we can see that religious differences do not necessarily lead to violent opposition in the everyday life. There are many shared beliefs among different religions, probably resulted from pseudo-conversions imposed by military and political conquests.
