Abstract

This article is a sociological sketch that aims at presenting an analysis of the practice of tattooing in detention, based on the idea that within the total institution that is the penitentiary, the individuals build their social framework through the body. The justification is sustained through an analysis of statistical data from a series of bio-behavioral surveys conducted in Romanian penitentiaries during the period 2007-2009.
