Abstract

This work concerns a certain type of city community life in its urban neighborhood form. The study is a descriptive theoretical view upon the important properties of this social entity. The following issues were considered: the concept definition and the way it was used in the social abstracts, the normative aspect in the urban community, neighborhood characteristics, types, functions and the perception of this type of community expressed in the form of a neighborhood map. Due to the complex character of this subject, the concept of urban neighborhood was integrated in an explanatory schema with two dimensions: the neighborhood as a dwelling unit, as a physical environment on the one hand and the neighborhood as a social relationship, the individual dealing with place and people on the other hand. The study is a request for the monographic researches of urban neighborhoods from the point of view of relationships between people and their physical environment and also of the sociability networks which appear in such communities.
